AU is on way to set up a School of Science and technology where it will have four Institutes under its umbrella:
Institute of ICT will be closely networked with the other schools and will amalgamate courses from domains such as Management, Life sciences, Physical sciences and Engineering. This combination of various scientific disciplines working in close networking with each other is what we think holds the Future of ICT education. See Figure 2

AU campus will be located in the heart of the city in a campus of around 100 acres. Being a part of the Ahmedabad Education cluster within a 10 km radius of Ahmedabad University, both the students and faculty will have the opportunity to take courses or conduct collaborative research projects with high quality institutes such as Ahmedabad Textile Industries Research Association (ATIRA), Physical Research Laboratories (PRL), National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad (NID), Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA), and Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology University (CEPT University), Indian Institute of Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Institute for Plasma research and Vikram Sarabhai Community Science Center.
Gujarat is a strong industrial state and has been known for its entrepreneurial strengths. Gujarat is ranked highly for well-established industries in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, textiles, automobiles, energy, petrochemicals, diamonds, salt, and crude and oil refineries. . This strengthens the Institute's position in terms of getting access to industrial infrastructure, knowledge transfer, research projects, and finally placement opportunities for students. Besides this, Gujarat has shown very promising signs in the IT sector with large software industries such as TCS, Patni, and Infosys entering the state in the recent past. In addition, the Gujarat International Financial Tech-City (GIFT), is being set up in Gandhinagar, which further indicates that Gujarat is poised to take the IT leap and emerge as a strong IT center in the coming years.
Shri. Kiran Karnik,
Past President, NASSCOM
"Gujarat - which has been attracting a great deal of Indian and international investment in a variety of sectors - is well positioned to now take-off in ICT too. There is need and scope to develop a new generation of ICT professionals who can address the needs of not only the global market, but also the growing need for ICT-enabled products and services for India, particularly in sectors like automobiles, renewable energy and health-care.
The Institute of ICT of Ahmedabad University is well-positioned to create the high-quality professionals required for this through its unique focus on developing professionals who can address the societal and market needs, and do so with an understanding of the interplay between business and technology, The vision and drive energizing this ICT Institute will certainly see it delivering on this promise."
